The Advantages of Using a Clean Energy Source

Lowering energy bills is important to everyone, but not everyone knows how to go about doing this. Clean energy such as wind, solar and water are natural ways to produce energy without using fossil fuels. Fossil fuels may not always be an option and with the war over oil in the middle east and restrictions on our own resources their availability may not be a long term option for the United States. There are many alternatives to fossil fuels such as the heat pump (tapping ground source heat), wind, geothermal and solar – and it’s the latter I’d like to elaborate on here. The installation of solar panels will pay for itself in less than one year. The panels are installed onto the roof of the building and the energy either goes directly to the needs of the building or can be kept for a period of time as a charge on a battery. This is ideal for use at night or on a cloudy day when the sun will not be producing as much energy. For areas that do not have year round sun and experience winter months, solar panelling may not be the best choice and a more appropriate choice will be to have a wind turbine installed. Wind energy works in the same manner as solar panelling in that the energy is harvested from the surrounding natural powers. The difference is that these systems take up more room as opposed to the flat panels that adhere to a roof. Turbines require to have room to spin as well as a clear area to maximize the amount of wind that hits the blades. This means that trees, buildings, homes, etc. Will lessen the energy potential if too close to the turbine. We may not have discovered the perfect energy method yet, but, we are getting closer.
